APC’s Energy Efficiency Programme can save up to 7,000MW

ISLAMABAD - The Consortium leaders of Asia Pacific Corporation (APC) on Friday presented Energy Efficiency Programme in Ministry of Water and Power revealing that country could save electricity up to 7,000 megawatt by implementing this programme which would reduce the power shortfall.
A delegation of Consortium leaders of Asia Pacific Corporation on Friday gave detailed presentation on Energy Efficiency Programme to the Federal Minister for Water and Power Ch Ahmad Mukhtar and other high officials of the ministry. The delegation briefed the meeting that they want to invest $9 billion in power sector of the country that could save 7,000-megawatt electricity in the country, which would helpful in overcoming the shortfall.
A representative of delegation has informed The Nation that Federal Minister for Water and Power Ch Ahmad Mukhtar has supported the Energy Efficiency Programme and assured his full support in implementing the programme in the country. He further informed that Ministry of Water and Power would arrange a meeting of Asia Pacific Corporation (APC) with the officials of Finance Ministry and Planning Commission of Pakistan for further negotiation regarding the proposed Energy Efficiency Programme.
The delegation on Friday gave three detail presentations to the officials of the Ministry of Water and Power on Energy Efficiency Programme. In briefing, the meeting was informed that existing 23 million electric meters would be replaced with smart meters with an investment of $5 billion and this would save electricity up to 2000-megawatt in the country.
In another presentation, the meeting was informed that APC consortium would invest $1.5 billion in Rehabilitation upgradation and improving the performance of National Transmission Dispatch Company (NTDC) that could save 2000-4000 megawatt electricity in the country. According to the project plan, the APC consortium would make $3 billion investment in providing energy savers and streetlights at subsidise rates in the country. The country could save 1,500 megawatt electricity by using efficient energy savers (CSFLi). The meeting was informed that energy saver would be sold at only Rs 40 against the market price of Rs 150 to Rs 200.
It might be mentioned here that a high level delegation of Consortium leaders of Asia Pacific Corporation has already met the Adviser to Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain on Thursday. The delegation briefed the Adviser about the investment to be made in the energy (power and gas) sector, which worth over $10 billion.
