India Calls Off Zimbabwe Tour Over Fatigue Factor, Broadcasting Rights

The forthcoming tour of Team India to Zimbabwe has apparently been called off, on 22 June, due to unsolved issues between Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) and broadcaster Ten Sports.

India were scheduled to play three one-day internationals and two T20s in Zimbabwe, from July 10.

The decision (to call off the tour), was taken, citing the fatigue of the players and the fight over broadcast rights, according to reports.

The tour was uncertain mostly due to the broadcast issue, prompting Zimbabwe Cricket to issue a statement on 21 June that the tour may be postponed to next year.

Before the series, the Zimbabwe Cricket is hopeful of going ahead with (India’s) tour and so is in contact with BCCI and Ten Sports for resolving the issues.

“There are reports that Zimbabwe Cricket’s broadcasting partner is threatening the India tour to Zimbabwe. The ZC is in constant contact with both BCCI and Ten Sports over the said issues that need to be resolved before the tour,” said the statement.

“If the matters are not resolved within time, the Zimbabwe Cricket and the BCCImay postpone the tour to next year,” Zimbabwe Cricket chairperson, Wilson Manase, said.
